On Wednesday, November 3rd, locally owned Roof Top Sedums will unveil the first LiveRoof brand green roof in Davenport on an occupied building at the Genesis East complex on Rusholme in Davenport.

Genesis is dedicating approximately 4,600 square feet of their complex to this green roof system. The installed 1x2 foot green roof modules are covering 95% of the complex immediately and the rest will grow together as the sedums establish on the rooftop over the next several weeks. These sedum modules have been growing at Roof Top Sedums' Davenport location until the time for this week's final installation which will be conducted by locally owned Roofing Technology. The Genesis East roof has three plant mix areas; a red plant mix with 13 different sedum varieties, a green mix with 11 different sedum varieties, a blended color mix with 18 different sedum varieties and three donated taller accent sedum and allium varieties.

Roof Top Sedums co-founder Teresa Nelson says, "Before my mother passed away fighting cancer, she stayed at Genesis [hospital], but had nothing but a barren roof to look at out her window. We are proud to have the chance to change this view for the patients and staff of this hospital". This green roof garden will be seen by three floors of patients at the hospital year-round. The green roof will bloom throughout the year and because there are evergreen sedums
in this mix, these green roof plants will not disappear during the winter.

In 2007, Roof Top Sedums installed a green roof at Vander Veer Park's pump house northwest of the fountain. Today, Roof Top Sedums is a Regional LiveRoof Licensed Grower servicing Iowa, Western Illinois, Eastern Nebraska, Eastern Kansas, and most of Missouri. The Genesis East green roof will be the 8th LiveRoof brand Iowa project grown by Roof Top Sedums, since March of 2007. Co-founder Roxanne Nagel explains, "We have had tremendous success in the past three years and are excited about the reputation and attention our company is getting as our business grows." For more information on projects previously grown by Roof Top Sedums or information about the LiveRoof brand green roof system, visit www.rooftopsedums.com and follow the link to www.liveroof.com.

TEA PARTY EXPRESS CELEBRATES VICTORIES

Turns Attention to 2012 Elections and Holding 2010 Victors Accountable

The Tea Party Express issued the following statement regarding the 2010 election victories by tea party candidates across the nation:

"The Tea Party Express congratulates the scores of tea party candidates who won campaigns across this country, including hundreds of candidates who were supported by the Tea Party Express and our membership.

"The biggest victory might be the fact that the impact of the tea party movement was so strong that everyone - even many Democrats - started adopting the messaging  and positions of the tea party movement.

"There weren't all that many candidates running on the platform defending tax-spend-bailout policies or big government excess, such as ObamaCare.

"In one race where a candidate turned against the tea party principles, and was closely linked to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the candidate lost.  That candidate was Congressman Walt Minnick (D-Idaho) who had been endorsed by the Tea Party Express in the primary.  After he turned against the Tea Party Express, rejecting our endorsement, accepting the endorsement instead of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and refusing to commit to the repeal of ObamaCare, the Tea Party Express endorsed his Republican challenger, Raul Labrador.  After a late blitz of radio and TV ads by the Tea Party Express opposing Minnick and supporting Labrador, Minnick found himself voted out of office once the election returns came in.

"There were a few races where tea party candidates came up short including Senate races in Delaware and Nevada.  In those races, the tea party candidates had to battle both the Republican and Democrat political establishments during their quests for election victory, and this is exactly as it should be.

"We cannot simply say that the Republican Party's preferred candidate should be the tea party candidate.  Winning Republican control of the Senate at the expense of the platform and principles of the Republican Party is no victory.  Our nation got itself into the mess we face because Republicans sold out their principles and joined Democrats in supporting the policies of tax-spend-bailout.

"The tea party movement will continue to hold both political parties accountable as the 2012 elections approach, and we at the Tea Party Express look forward to building on the election gains of Tuesday, to further strengthen and build the constitutional conservative constituency in the House, Senate and White House in 2012."

From the Pacific Northwest, Oregon's troubadour traveler BRIAN CUTEAN (aka QTN) comes to Rock Island to celebrate the bounty of autumn. The concert is Friday November 19 at First Lutheran Parish House, 1620 - 20th St. This is an all ages event and admission will be $5 to $10 sliding scale and is not a church-related event.

QTN is a many faceted minstrel, a teller of wild tales filled with wordplay and wonder and powerful and colourful guitar chops, an award-winning songwriter-performer and an offbeat unusual and thoughtfully real voice in these days of mass-produced, unremarkable, disposable music.

After five albums and nearly 30 years of songwriting, performing metafables and stories, Cutean has released Guitarred and Feathered, a new CD of wordless acoustic guitar music for mindheartsouls to sing along with; antifrantic music that breathes and celebrates. The new disc has been garnering rave reviews and national and international airplay.

Based in the Willamette Valley of Oregon alternating between Portland and Eugene, Cutean makes annual trips to the southwest and midwest, and his concerts are community events.

With one guitar, a whirl of musical ideas and the sound of hands, wound wires and wood, Cutean weaves together instrumental songs with dynamic playing in the new CD. "The four elements I reached for in this recording, " says Cutean, "are melody, rhythm, a fun bassline and silence. This album is a breather from a world shrill with opinions, instant message me-me-me blogs and 24 hour news chatter. It is universal in every language and the stories it tells belong to us all."

Cutean writes songs like no one else's: love songs from another planet, spacious world poems, conscious wordplay meta-fables that roll off the tongue and folky jazz melodies with a gypsy blues beat and wry whole wheat sensibility. His wordless guitar stylings to provoke and inspire, his stories are laughable, affable and unforgettable; his presentation unpretentious, comfortable and unpredictable.

He has traveled the country for years playing festivals, coffeehouses, concerts, schools and gatherings. Brian's songs get airplay on radio stations the world over and he has been a guest on radio shows like the nationally-syndicated River City Folk. He is a favourite at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas, Oregon Country Fair and many other venues.

Newspapers have said:

  • "...The Tom Robbins of folk music" (The Carbondale Flipside)

  • "Playful, energetic and honest." (The Oregonian)

  • "QTN is the guitarist with one foot in the groove!"  (DE Knight, Seraphic Park)

  • "An unclassifiable and irreverent acoustic performer..." (The Austin Chronicle)

  • "One of our leading contemporary songsmiths and music makers" (Victory Music Review)

  • "Brian is one of those rare guitarists who possesses a 'signature touch' that can be recognized in a moment.A splendid piece of work that will always be a jewel in my collection." (Kelly Mulhollan, Still on the Hill)

  • "An adept storyteller ...[whose] lyrics run the gamut of personal reflection to commentary on social issues" (Folkwax)

  • "Introspective, satirical, delightfully absurd and always acoustically gentle to the ears..." (The Austin Statesman)
