CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (November 6, 2024) — Peppercorn at the Bank, a private venue offering elevated American cuisine featuring USDA Prime beef and located in the historic People’s Bank building in downtown Cedar Rapids will now open as a restaurant on November 18, 2024, announced co-owners Carrie Quast and Jude Villafana.
“Opening Peppercorn at the Bank was in response to the appeal from our loyal clientele. We will offer old-school steakhouse vibes with table-side service, coupled with elevated modern flavors crafted by Executive Chef Megan Schultz, all set in an opulent historic atmosphere. This is what Cedar Rapids has been waiting for,” said Villafana.
Peppercorn at the Bank, located at 101 Third Avenue SW, will be open to the public for dinner Monday through Thursday and for private venue rental on weekends.
The historic “jewel box” bank was designed by Louis Henry Sullivan and opened as a bank in 1911. The interior features murals by Allen Philbrick, nestled within a mezzanine with stained glass windows. The bank was one of several small "jewel box" banks designed by Sullivan in the mid-West between 1907 and 1919. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
The restaurant is the newest addition to the portfolio of the Peppercorn Food Company that includes custom catering for weddings and corporate events in Cedar Rapids and surrounding Iowa City, Dubuque, Quad Cities, Galena, Illinois, and Apple River, Illinois. The food-group portfolio also includes the Peppercorn Food Truck, community fundraisers, in-house chef services, and two venue rental options. Next, Peppercorn Food Company will open a catering kitchen in Dubuque in March 2025, growing catering services in the Dubuque, Iowa and Galena, Illinois markets.
