CLINTON, IOWA (May 9, 2019) — The Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center, "Clinton, Iowa's Children's Museum," is making many magical moments in May. At WOW Wednesday you’ll experiment with leftover Peeps. Then, it’s time for music with Miss April and Miss Amanda at Funtime Friday. Each of these programs is free with regular museum admission or membership. Monday, May 20, brings a Pizza Ranch Fundraiser Night, 5-8PM, as well as Wendy’s Fundraiser Night, 5-7PM. Please note that the Discovery Center will be closed on Sunday, May 12, and Sunday, May 26.
And save the date for the biggest event at the Discovery Center each year, Felix Adler Day, on June 15.
WOW Wednesday
Wednesday, May 15, 2-5PM, is a WOW Wednesday at the Discovery Center, sponsored by US Bank Foundation. It’s time for a Peep experiment at the Please-Touch-Table. Take this yummy holiday treat, add some science, and see the wild results.
WOW Wednesday is perfect for school-aged kids and their families and is a great activity for a school-break, early-out, and homeschoolers. WOW Wednesday is drop-in with no pre-registration required — it is an enrichment program with no extra class fee.
Miss Jean is also here every WOW Wednesday, with her chess, juggling, and logic puzzles. Miss Jean teaches beginning-chess to all, from preschoolers through adult, or she will play a strategic game with an opponent to match their skill level. Additionally, she loves to juggle and can teach anyone of any age to become a successful juggler. Also, she has on hand three large cases of logic puzzles, construction materials, and hands-on brain-teasers to fascinate any age. She can teach anyone; all ages and abilities are welcome.
Funtime Friday
Friday, May 17, 10AM, is Funtime Friday, sponsored by Clinton Kiwanis Club and Alliant Energy Foundation. It’s time for music at the Discovery Center. Join Miss April and Miss Amanda as they introduce us to cool instruments and make merry, music melodies. As always there will be a snack to go along with the theme. This popular program is designed for preschoolers and their grown-ups, although all age children are welcome anytime, especially during school breaks and summer vacations.
Pizza Ranch Fundraiser Night
On Monday, May 20, 5-8PM, make your dinner plans at the local Pizza Ranch. This fundraiser is to benefit your local children’s museum. You can dine in, carry-out, or drive-through to help the Discovery Center earn 10% of sales. Volunteers from the Discovery Center will be at Pizza Ranch waiting tables, earning tips, and helping you have a fun, friendly evening dinner.
Discovery Center volunteers will also bring their brand of fun to the restaurant with facepainting, Kapla blocks, and free Discovery Center coupons. The proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward educational programs and events at the children’s museum.
Wendy’s Night Fundraiser
On Monday, May 20, 5-7PM, dine-in, carry-out, or drive-through Wendy’s Restaurant to help support your local children’s museum. Wendy’s will donate 10% of all sales during that time to the Discovery Center. It’s a great way to help your community while having a nice family meal. This is the last Wendy’s Night until the beginning of the school year in the fall.
Holiday Closings
Please note: The Discovery Center will be closed on Sunday, May 12, for Mother’s Day, and Sunday, May 26, to observe Memorial Day.
Blue Star Museum
Again this year, the Discovery Center will participate in the Blue Star Museum program sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts. This program begins on Armed Forces Day, May 18, and runs through Labor Day, September 1. As a Blue Star Museum, the Discovery Center will offer free museum admission to active duty military and their families (up to five family members). Active military includes: Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines, National Guard, and Reserve Members. Please present your active duty card at the admission desk when you come to the Discovery Center.
Felix Adler Day, June 15
Saturday, June 15, is the 30th annual Felix Adler Day. This yearly celebration is in honor of Frank B. “Felix” Adler, who was a famous clown from Clinton, Iowa, and the inspiration for the Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center. Held in June to coincide with Felix’s birthday, this is the largest event the Discovery Center holds.
Join the Discovery Center — rain or shine — with free admission to the Discovery Center and the festival grounds. There will be plenty of family fun to be had and things to explore both on the festival grounds and in the play area. This includes: pony rides, petting zoo, trackless train rides, live stage shows, inflatable bouncy houses, game tent with prizes every time, face-painting, balloon artists, professional clowns, and a food-booth by the Futon Kiwanis Club, with all proceeds going to the Discovery Center.
The Discovery Center is located at 332 8th Avenue South in downtown Clinton, Iowa, at the foot of the US 30 Bridge over the mighty Mississippi — where the Lincoln Highway meets the Great River Road. They are open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 9:30AM-5PM, and Sundays, 12:30-5PM. Museum admission is $4 per person ages two to 64, $3 per person ages 65 and older, free for children one and younger, and free for members of the children's museum.
The Felix Adler Children's Discovery Center is a non-profit children's museum whose mission is to provide a safe and positive environment for families to discover the world by exploring arts, culture, literacy, and science through educational programs and interactive exhibits.
