Daniel Dankert Named Central College Fellow

PELLA, (03/22/2012)(readMedia)-- Daniel Dankert, a native of Davenport, has been awarded a P.H. Kuyper Fellowship from Central College. The P.H. Kuyper Fellowship is a three-year full-tuition award.

Fellowships, presented to incoming first-year students, are Central's most prestigious awards. Fellows are accorded a special mentoring relationship with a faculty member, resulting in a senior honors project. Dankert was awarded the fellowship following Central's Scholar Days in February. From over 250 applicants, three P.H. Kuyper fellows were named in 2012.

Central College is a private, four-year, residential liberal arts college in Pella, Iowa. Central's academic program offers 39 majors leading to a bachelor's degree, along with pre-professional programs and advising. Central was recognized in the 2011 U.S. News & World Report's annual rankings of the best liberal arts colleges in the nation.

Emily Huegel of Bettendorf, a junior elementary education major, daughter of Tony and Debra Huegel

Justine Jackovich of Eldridge, a junior biology major, daughter of Vincent and Denise Jackovich

Melanie Louis of Davenport, a senior biology major, daughter of Robert and Diane Louis

Maaike Mielenhausen of Davenport, a junior elementary education major, daughter of Steve and Belinda Mielenhausen

Hanna Wilson of Wellman, a junior elementary education major, daughter of John and Lynda Wilson

The honor is awarded to full-time students who achieve a 3.5 grade point average or higher on a 4.0 scale while taking 12 or more graded credit hours for the semester.

Local students accepted to Central College Abroad program

PELLA, IOWA (10/29/2011)(readMedia)-- The following students were accepted to a Central College Abroad study abroad program for the spring 2012 semester:

Justine Jackovich, a native of Eldridge, was accepted to Central College Abroad's program in Granada, Spain.

Patricia Braun, a native of Davenport, was accepted to Central College Abroad's program in Merida, Mexico.

Central College Abroad is a university-based study abroad provider for undergraduate students from colleges and universities throughout the United States. Central College Abroad offers semester, yearlong and summer study abroad programs at nine sites worldwide and operates out of Central College.

Megan Querry, native of Bettendorf, Iowa, in Community Chorus, directed by Mark Babcock

Justine Jackovich, native of Eldridge, Iowa, in Symphonic Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Mitchell Lutch

Hannah Seibel, native of Eldridge, Iowa, in Vocal Jazz Combos, directed by Gabriel Espinosa

Ellen Korn, native of Davenport, Iowa, in Community Chorus, directed by Mark Babcock

Steven Gordon, native of Davenport, Iowa, in Community Chorus and A Cappella Choir, directed by Mark Babcock

Central College offers 18 music ensembles, ranging from the 60-voice A Cappella Choir to the Flying Pans Steel Pan Band. The music ensembles are open to music majors and non-majors alike, and several tour annually.
