ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (April 10, 2023) — Augustana College's Jenny Lind Vocal Ensemble, under the direction of Dr Michael Zemek, will embark on a performance tour April 14-16 in Missouri and Iowa. They will also perform selections from their tour on April 29 on campus.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (April 10, 2023) — A group of eleven Augustana College juniors have been selected for the prestigious Texas Medical Center Summer Research Internship Program.

The following students will take part in the paid, full-time, 10-week experience at the Texas Medical Center in Houston this summer.

- Leslie Bandera, a biochemistry major from Oregon, Illinois.

- Amen Bekele, psychology, political science and economics triple major from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (March 28, 2023) — A grant from the Roy J Carver Charitable Trust will allow Augustana College faculty and students to engage in next-generation DNA-sequencing research.

The $118,062 grant will be used to purchase an Illumina MiniSeq instrument, Nanodrop spectrophotometer, refrigerated shaking incubator, and necessary supplementary equipment and supplies.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (March 23, 2023) — The Augustana Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr James Lambrecht, will perform concerts in Japan in March and April. Between performances, students will visit multiple cities throughout Japan and fully immerse themselves in the culture.

The fifty-person ensemble will perform pieces by Yasuhide Ito, Philip Sparke, Julie Giroux, David Maslanka, Frank Ticheli, and John Philip Sousa.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (March 16, 2023) — Dr Greg Rasmussen of the Painted Dog Research Trust, PDRT, in Zimbabwe will present a free lecture at noon Friday, March 17, at Augustana College’s Hanson Hall, Room 234.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (March 9, 2023) — The Augustana College Department of Theatre presents ‘Small Mouth Sounds,’ March 16-19, at the Brunner Theatre Center Main Stage. Ben Gougeon of Quad City Arts will direct the performance.

In the comedy-drama, six runaways from city life embark on a silent retreat but their vows of silence conflict with their need to connect. Playwright Bess Wohl noted that everyone in the play is in some kind of agony, "not unlike the rest of us."

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (March 3, 2023) — Endre Rice, former jazz director at Augustana, will share the stage March 10 with the Augustana Jazz Ensemble. The performance is free; tickets are not required.

Under the direction of assistant professor Dr Joel Linscheid, the ensemble will perform music recorded and made famous by the Count Basie Orchestra. A few 2020 graduates, whose winter jazz concert was canceled due to the pandemic, also may perform with the ensemble.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (March 3, 2023) — A $10,000 grant will allow Augustana College to increase access to gender-affirming voice therapy for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals.

Mary Lind, a 1972 communication sciences and disorders graduate, provided the grant that will expand access to low-cost individual and group gender-affirming communication therapy provided by Augustana’s Barbara A Roseman Center for Speech, Language, and Hearing.
