On the edge of glory, the evil Lady Za Za determines to rule the kingdom by keeping the beautiful Princess Rapunzel - with the long, long, long hair - trapped in a tower in the deep, dark, dank, dismal, dreary forest. It'll be up to Sir Roderick and his hair stylist friend Edgar (who is on a quest to find the perfect head of hair) to rescue Princess Rapunzel and restore the kingdom - with the help of a slightly neurotic Gypsy Woman - isn't there one in every fairy tale? and a tired, yet witty, old dragon named Socrates - who has lost his poof!

Venture back Into the Woods as City Circle Acting Company of Coralville presents the Tony Award-winning musical classic by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, April 24-May 3 at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts.

Follow a baker and his wife as they struggle to meet the demands of a vengeful witch so that they may have their hearts' desire?a child of their own. On their journey in and out of the woods, they meet a woman fleeing a ball, a girl with extraordinary hair, a cow-sick boy, a sweet-loving granddaughter, a couple of princes, and at least one giant.

This show features two equity actors bringing their professional polish to the CCPA Stage.  Kristen Behrendt (DeGrazia) shows her Broadway talents as the delightfully cruel and crafty witch, a role made famous by Bernadette Peters.  Patrick DuLaney presents his professional chops as the Baker, who helps connect each of these hilarious and heartbreaking fairy tales together into a story even the Grimm Brothers never imagined.

"I remember listening to the cassette tape of the original cast in 1987 before ever seeing the show on stage.  I imagined what the show would look like--how the stories would be told in the theater.  I'm thrilled to be able to work with this all-star cast to bring this vision finally to life," says director Chris Okiishi. "Even though these are Fairy Tale characters and the stories are firmly based in the Brothers Grimm, I think our audiences will relate in a very real way to the characters' triumphs and struggles.  And who hasn't wondered what happens after 'Happily Ever After'?"

Tickets are $12-$27 and can be purchased online at http://www.coralvillearts.org/ or by calling 319.248.9370 or in person at the CCPA box office at 1301 5th Street and at the Coralville Recreation Center at 1506 8th Street. Into the Woods is sponsored by University of Iowa Community Credit Union.

Featuring performers in grades K-4

The Young Footliters will present Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio, as adapted by Kathryn Schultz Miller, this Friday April 17 at 7:00 PM and Saturday April 18 at 2:00 PM at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts.  The production features performers in grades K-4 and is directed by Jean Grewe. Tickets are $5-$7 and are available online at www.coralvillearts.org, by phone at 319.248.9370, and in person at the CCPA box office (1301 5th Street) and Coralville Recreation Center (1506 8th Street).

According to director Jean Grewe, "It has been a total joy and blessing working on this show!  The kids are acting, building the sets, and working as running crew; they have really been involved in every part of the show, and are having a great time doing it!  And the parents have really stepped up as well - costumes, props, set, working backstage, helping in the Green Room, you name it, they did it!"

Performing in Pinocchio creates a special, age-appropriate experience for young performers.  The children receive valuable experience in putting on a production: they learn about the rehearsal process, what a performance is like, how to project and speak clearly, how to pay attention and focus on the show, and how to work as a team.  They also have a lot of fun creating a show with other kids.

City Circle Acting Company will present the musical sensation RENT on August 2-4 at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts.

Cast members from City Circle's 2009 sold-out teen production of RENT reunite to reprise their roles in this highly acclaimed Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning rock musical with music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson based on Puccini's opera La Boheme.

"We are so excited to revisit this awesome cast after four years and see how they've changed, grown and experienced life.  They are now the actual ages of the characters they so memorably portrayed, and so we will get a chance to see and hear this play in a way simultaneously fresh and nostalgic.  Seasons of Love indeed!" says City Circle Community Rep Chris Okiishi.

RENT is an inspiring story about friends and artists struggling in New York City's East Village. Its musical score shifts easily between pounding rock numbers and pop-style ballads, while tackling addiction, poverty, AIDS, and most of all, love.

RENT will be performed August 2 and 3 at 7:30pm and August 4 at 2pm at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts.
