Students accepted to Cornell College

MOUNT VERNON, IA (12/10/2013)(readMedia)-- Cornell College, a private liberal arts college in Mount Vernon, Iowa, has announced the students it has accepted for admission through Nov. 27, 2013.

Kendra Kendra of Morrison was accepted, and also earned the Founders Scholarship in recognition of her accomplishments.

Stanton Stanton of Muscatine was accepted, and also earned the Presidential Scholarship in recognition of his accomplishments.

Alexander Alexander of Eldridge was accepted, and also earned the Presidential Scholarship in recognition of his accomplishments.

Grant Grant of De Witt was accepted, and also earned the Trustee Scholarship in recognition of his accomplishments.

More than 250 graduate from Cornell College

MOUNT VERNON, IA (06/07/2013)(readMedia)-- More than 250 students graduated from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, on May 12, 2013.

Erin McDonnell of DeWitt graduated with a bachelor of arts in Studio Art with an additional major in Philosophy and minored in English.

Cynthia Hampton of Wilton graduated with a bachelor of arts in Elementary Education .

Christine Nguyen of Davenport graduated with a bachelor of arts in Psychology and minored in Biology.

DeWitt's Erin McDonnell Inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Cornell College

MOUNT VERNON, IA (04/08/2013)(readMedia)-- Erin McDonnell of DeWitt was one of 17 Cornell College students inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the country's oldest and most prestigious academic honor society.

These students will have their names added to the permanent plaque in Cole Library listing all members elected to Cornell's chapter.

Election is based upon good character and a distinguished record of performance in courses that demonstrate a broad exposure to the liberal arts, i.e., the fine arts, humanities, languages, natural sciences and mathematics, and social sciences, as well as substantive work in areas outside the major. Leanna Doyle Takes Part in Alternative Spring Break

MOUNT VERNON, IA (03/15/2013)(readMedia)-- Leanna Doyle of Davenport is one of nearly 100 Cornell College students taking part in the college's annual Alternative Spring Break. This is the ninth year the college has sponsored a service trip that takes place during its 10-day Spring Break.

This year, students are going to Pine Ridge, S.D., Atlanta, Ga., Chicago, Austin, Texas, Elm Mott, Texas, Selma, Ala., and Tom's River, N.J.

Doyle is taking part in the trip to World Hunger Relief, Inc. in Elm Mott, Texas

Christine Nguyen inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Cornell College

Local Students enrolled at Cornell College

MOUNT VERNON, IA (10/06/2011)(readMedia)-- This year's class of new students at Cornell College is among the most geographically and ethnically diverse in the history of Cornell, with students from 42 states and 10 countries and 25 percent domestic students of color. They are academic achievers, with 14 valedictorians, six salutatorians and 57 students who held a 4.0 or better GPA, and they are involved in co-curricular activities, as well. Sixteen percent were class or organization presidents, 15 percent were captains of a sport, 32 percent were varsity athletes, 34 percent were musicians, and 19 percent were involved in theatre.

With a total enrollment of 1,197 students, Cornell College set a record for the second year in a row.

"Cornell received 3,600 applications for admission this past year," said Jonathan Stroud, vice president for enrollment.
