Prepared opening remarks by Senator Charles "Chuck" Grassley of Iowa, Chairman, Senate Finance Committee Hearing on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement:

WASHINGTON DC (July 30, 2019) — Senate Finance Committee Chairman Charles "Chuck" Grassley (R-IA) released the following statement on the House passage of the reauthorization of the Family-to-Family Health Information Centers Program. The reauthorization extends the program for five years, which is the longest-ever extension of the program. The bipartisan legislation now heads to President Donald Trump to be signed into law.

WASHINGTON DC (July 29, 2019) — Senate Finance Committee Chairman Charles "Chuck" Grassley today released the following statement regarding the Governmental Accountability Office’s (GAO) report on disproportionate share hospital (DSH) payments and states’ use and distribution of these payments to hospitals through Medicaid.

Medicaid provides roughly 65 million Americans with health-care coverage paid for by tax-payers. This federal-state health-insurance program provides a safety net for low-income adults, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. I worry that it could unravel because of unsustainable spending for unchecked drug-pricing.

For the past week there have been ongoing discussions between congressional leadership and the Administration relating to an agreement on budget caps and raising the debt limit. Those discussions produced an agreement that was announced Monday night.

WASHINGTON DC (July 25, 2019) — Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) are seeking information from Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials on the use of solitary confinement following recent allegations of misuse. In a letter today to Acting ICE Director Matthew Albence, the Senators note recent inspector general reports that highlighted deficiencies by some ICE field offices in properly reporting and documenting the use of solitary confinement.
