Metropolitan Community Church of the Quad Cities (MCCQC) invites the community to an artist reception from 2 – 4 pm on Saturday, April 30 to honor the accomplishments of the team of artists who worked on the collaborative art project, The Art within Us.

DAVENPORT, Iowa, April 18, 2016 – MCCQC is celebrating the completion of the 2016 tile art classes, The Art Within Us. Join us for a dessert, coffee and punch reception as we honor our talented team of artists. Under the guidance of Lead Artist Sarah Robb and inspired by the art of Pablo Picasso and Gustav Klimt, our team of twenty-three collaborated on two 48” x 64” tile murals. The Tree of Life is installed in the MCCQC Social Hall and the Picasso Inspired Rose, in the sanctuary.

In addition to funds donated by members of MCC QC, the project is supported with Quad City Arts Dollar$ funds, provided by Hubbell-Waterman Foundation, Illinois Arts Council Agency, John Deere, and the Doris and Victor Day Foundation. According to lead artist Sarah Robb, “The goal of the project was to create a collaborative experience with the intention of building a sense of community among the participants. Participants of all levels had the opportunity to develop and/or enhance art skills”. The group came to consensus about two works of art from a selection of six that had previously been chosen by the lead artist. The selection process included an overview of each artist’s worldview and the impact on creative choices.
