The University of Dubuque Department of Fine and Performing Arts will present a series of arts and music events this spring featuring UD ensembles. All events are open to the public.

UD Spring Wind Ensemble Concert, Red, White, and Blue

WHEN: Thursday, April 6 – 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center, University of Dubuque

TICKETS: Free, ticket required.

Red, White, and Blue will feature musicians from the UD Wind Ensemble and UD Chamber Winds, conducted by Dr. Nicholas Bratcher, director of instrumental music, and the Clarke University Winds, conducted by David Resnick, instructor of music. The concert will take listeners down a musical timeline of America, highlighting the good and not-so-good. Selections include works by Lo Presti, Smith, Barnes, and a new wind band commission by Dubuque native and internationally acclaimed composer Adam O’Dell, titled “On the Nature of Revolutions.”

 

UD Spring Choral Concert, We Lift Our Voice in Song

WHEN: Sunday, April 9 – 2:00 p.m.

WHERE: John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center, University of Dubuque

TICKETS: Free, ticket required.

We Lift Our Voice in Song will feature the music of the UD Concert Choir, conducted by Dr. Charles Barland, professor of music and head of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, and the UD Chamber Singers, conducted by Kristen Eby, adjunct music faculty. Join the UD choirs as they present the program they will perform on their national tour, We Lift Our Voice in Song: 2017 Concert Choir National Tour, from May 15-26 that will take them from California to Hawaii.

 

UD Spring Jazz Ensemble Concert, Swing into Spring

WHEN: Wednesday, April 19 – 7:30 p.m

WHERE: CyberCafé Knapp Stage, Heritage Center, University of Dubuque

TICKETS: Free, no ticket required.

Swing into Spring will feature music from the big band swing era, as well as jazz standards from the 1970s and 1980s including tunes by Billie Holiday, George Gershwin, Thad Jones, and Earth, Wind and Fire. In addition, the band will perform jazz renditions of current Top 40 hits from Adele, Bruno Mars, and Justin Timberlake. Student soloists will be featured throughout the concert.

 

UD Chamber Singers Spring Concert

WHEN: Saturday, April 22 – 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: Blades Chapel, University of Dubuque

TICKETS: Free, no ticket required.

Conducted by Kristen Eby, the 14-voice a capella UD Chamber Singers will perform repertoire in a variety of styles including American folk, world, classical, and pop.

 

UD Spartaneous Improv Night

WHEN: Tuesday, May 2 – 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: Babka Theatre, Heritage Center, University of Dubuque

TICKETS: Free, ticket required (Tickets will be available beginning Monday, April 3).

Members of the UD Spartaneous Improv Troupe, directed by Greg Wolf, adjunct theater faculty, will perform comedy skits with suggestions from the audience.
