IA/IL QUAD-CITIES – David Tahere, a 2004 graduate of Davenport High School, is hosting a benefit concert on Thursday, March 30 to benefit the Davenport Community Schools’ vocal music programs. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1702 Iowa St., Davenport, IA. All ages are welcome to attend. Free childcare will be provided during the concert for attendees.

Tickets are available for a suggested donation of $10, but any amount is appreciated. Current music students and their families are free. For those who wish to donate but cannot attend, it is recommended that donations be made to the Davenport Schools Foundation.

Tahere will be joined by Claire Kuttler, a 2002 graduate of Davenport West High School, and Perry Mears on piano. “There will be lots of familiar music, show tunes, and operatic arias,” said Tahere. “Plenty of high notes!”

Music was important for Tahere in high school, where he played the tuba in band, and participated in Concert Choir, Jazz Choir, and Show Choir. There he met Kuttler and they’ve been friends since their school days. It had been a while since they’d performed together, so they planned a recital. While Mears is not originally from Davenport, Kuttler and Tahere had worked with him separately throughout their careers, and they all thought it would be fun to hold a fundraiser.

“We wanted to plan a fundraiser,” said Tahere, “because all three of us are very thankful for the role that our teachers and music played in our development as musicians and people. There is nothing that could replace the life lessons we learned through practice, rehearsal and performance. We wanted to support their work and make it possible for more students to participate in the musical opportunities the schools provide.”
