DUBUQUE, Iowa – University of Dubuque is excited to announce today that multiplatinum pop singer and songwriter Mike Posner & The Legendary Mike Posner Band will perform Friday, May 5, at 8:00 p.m. in John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center, on campus.
Posner’s debut album, 31 Minutes to Takeoff, included Billboard Hot 100 singles “Cooler than Me” and “Please Don’t Go.” His latest hit, “I Took a Pill in Ibiza,” amassed over 1 billion worldwide streams, went Top 10 in 85 countries, held No. 1 on Top 40 for two weeks straight, and made history as one of Spotify’s Top 10 Most Streamed Songs of All Time.
Heritage Center conducted an online survey with the UD student body in the spring semester on concert preferences. With 377 responses, the genre of music that scored the highest in the survey was “Today’s Top Hits,” followed by country and alternative. Students were also asked to rank their favorites out of seven specific artists who had serious potential to play at UD this May. Results indicated Mike Posner was in the top two of the seven named artists.
“An anonymous student comment from the survey indicated ‘Mike Posner performing at UD would be the coolest thing that’s happened in my four years here,’” said Thomas Robbins, executive director of Heritage Center.
Tickets are exclusively on sale for UD students, at $10 per ticket, this week. All other ticket sales begin Tuesday, March 28, at 10:00 a.m. Tickets for faculty, staff, alumni, and non-UD students are $20; tickets for the general public are $30. Phone and online convenience fees may apply. Children 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
Since kicking off his career in 2009, Posner became one of the world’s most inescapable and recognizable voices. In 2016, his second full-length album, At Night, Alone, debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard Top 200 and included the ubiquitous Recording Industry Association of America triple-platinum smash “I Took a Pill in Ibiza.” The follow-up single, “Be As You Are,” accrued more than 50 million streams.
Posner has performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Conan, Ellen, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. In between tours with artists such as Justin Bieber, Posner became a sought after hitmaker. He’s the man behind smashes including Maroon 5’s “Sugar,” Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend,” and Labrinth ft. Emeli Sandé’s “Beneath Your Beautiful.”
The concert is made possible, in part, by the John and Alice Butler Endowment for the Arts at the University of Dubuque.
Media support for Mike Posner & The Legendary Mike Posner Band is provided exclusively by Y-105 and Telegraph Herald, Heritage Center’s 2016-2017 season presenting media partner.
