Quad Cities pounds out 12 hits, wins 7-1

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The River Bandits defeated the Cedar Rapids Kernels 7-1 on Wednesday night at Modern Woodmen Park. Yodan Alvarez homered for the second consecutive night and Cionel Perez picked up the win on the mound.

The Bandits (34-30) scored in each of the first three innings. In the first, Taylor Jones singled to drive in a run. In the second, Alvarez drove in two runs on a single. In the third, Ray Henderson hit a liner up the middle to make it 4-0 Quad Cities. Alvarez led off the fifth with a solo homer, his seventh of the season. The Bandits added two more in the sixth on Chuckie Robinson’s two-RBI infield single. Leading 7-0, Quad Cities surrendered the first run to Cedar Rapids (37-29) in the top of the seventh on Travis Blankenhorn’s RBI triple.

Perez (4-3) tossed 5.1 shutout innings for the Bandits. The left-hander allowed seven hits and struck out six. Abdiel Saldana gave Quad Cities 2.2 innings out of the pen, allowing the Kernels lone run of the night. Erasmo Pinales shut down the Kernels in the ninth. Domenick Carlini took the loss for Cedar Rapids. Carlini (3-5) allowed five runs on nine hits in five innings.

The rubber match of the three game series is Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. WWE Hall of Famer Booker T will be at Modern Woodmen Park for Guys Night presented by 7G Distributors on Thirst-day Thursday with $2 beer and soda specials.

The Bandits send RHP Gabriel Valdez (1-0, 3.60) to the mound against RHP Clark Beeker (6-2, 2.80). If you can’t make it to the game, Jake Levy and Connor Onion have pregame coverage beginning at 6:20 p.m. on riverbandits.com and 1170 AM KBOB.
