Five River Bandits record multi-hit games in 11-1 win

DAVENPORT, Iowa – After an hour rain delay to start the night, the Bandits blew out the visiting Peoria Chiefs 11-1 on a cool night at Modern Woodmen Park. Rodrigo Ayarza drove in four runs and Carmen Benedetti reached base in all five plate appearances for Quad Cities.

Yordan Alvarez belted his second home run of the year in the bottom of the first to give the Bandits (22-21) an early 2-0 cushion. The Bandits scored four times in the second inning to expand the advantage. Osvaldo Duarte rocked a solo homer to right. After Daz Cameron tripled, Wander Franco singled to center field. Cameron was sent back to third due to umpire’s interference. With runners at the corners, Stephen Wrenn’s infield single scored Cameron, making it 4-0 Bandits. Rodrigo Ayarza followed by driving in a pair on a single.

Working with a lead, Bandits starter Gabriel Valdez cruised through three hitless innings. Peoria finally cracked the hit column with back-to-back doubles from Stefan Trosclair and Andy Young, pulling the Chiefs within five runs after four innings. The best chance for Peoria came in the fifth as Valdez loaded the bases with none out. The Bandits right-hander promptly struck out the next two he faced. With two outs, Erasmo Pinales came out the pen and ended the threat with a strike out. Pinales (1-1) threw three scoreless innings and yielded one hit.

The Chiefs never moved a runner into scoring position after the fifth. Meanwhile, Quad Cities collected two more runs in the sixth and three in the seventh. Ayarza’s four RBI padded his team lead of 29. Steve Farinaro took the loss for the Chiefs. Farinaro (1-4) allowed seven runs and 10 hits over 5.1 innings.

The Bandits look to win their sixth straight at home tomorrow night. LHP Carlos Sanabria (0-1, 3.00) takes the mound for Quad Cities. Sanabria will oppose Chiefs’ RHP John Kilichowski (0-4, 4.03).
