Fun for Teens Follows Later that Same Day

Rock Island, IL: Kids and families can get a charge out of science with the free Absolute Science program at the Rock Island Public Library on Thursday, June 29. The all-ages learning event from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Downtown Library, 401 19th Street, mixes an interactive live program with an array of Creation Stations that let kids make and take awesome experiments.

Absolute Science is an fun and educational program aimed at helping children of all ages become engaged in the world of science through hands-on demonstrations and experiments. Registration is not required.

Additional events on June 29 include a Teen Iron Chef program for ages 12 to 18. The free event from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, also at the Downtown Library, challenges teens to design their own snack using the mystery ingredients provided. A panel of judges will select the winning dish. The top chef wins a prize, and bragging rights!  Registration is not required.

The Library's Reading by Design summer reading and learning program for all ages extends to Saturday, July 15. Participants may register for summer reading contests for kids, teens, adults, and families, either online or at any Rock Island Library location. By encouraging participants to read over the summer, the program helps reduce the summer learning slide.

For information or to register online, visit www.rockislandlibrary.org. For details about more events for in June and July, pick up or download the library's Summer Guide, call 309-732-READ, or follow the library on Facebook and Twitter.
